Cunca Wulang Canyon -located 30 km on the east of Labuan Bajo- lies in a tropical rainforest area. It is one of Flores’ most lovely spots for outdoor activities. Impressive waterfalls cascade into beautiful, fresh-water pools. And they lead into a series of smaller waterfalls and rivers a few kilometers downstream.
In recent years, Cunca Wulang has gained popularity as an excellent destination. Not to mention it already reached popular outdoor sport community such as canyoning. No wonder the place itself has become the leading preferable place for canyoning.
Even if canyoning is not your favorite sport, we shall opt for other choices. As the area does obviously offer good hiking and swimming options. The mounting hike route to Cunca Wulang from Wersawe Village is pleasantly surrounded by paddy fields in different stages of their planting and harvesting cycle. Vanilla, coffee, candlenut, and cacao can also be seen along the trail. There is the last yet steep part which leads us through a section of lush tropical rain forest.
Families can enjoy Cunca Wulang Canyon as part of a day trip to dip in the beautiful pools. Adventurers with high curiosity will surely witness the thrilling canyoning. The same goes for wilderness as well (by combining navigational travel skills).
Canyoning at Cunca Wulang with GO Socio Traveler
So far, no professional canyoning operator has yet taken up the business opportunity there. However, this does not mean that you cannot explore the canyon. Physically fit visitors can walk along the canyon. Rather, we might highly enjoy its plentiful pleasure being filled by the water there. The local youngsters in Wersawe Village will be glad to show you the best trails and places in the canyon, for a small contribution.

This beach had already been on Anugerah Pesona Indonesia (API) 2017’s nominee as ‘Most Popular New Destination’. Mbawana Beach is also well-known as Batu Bolong Beach too. We can find it on the Kodi region, Southwestern Sumba, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT). The distance is about 59 km from Tambolaka Airport and it will take precisely an hour and 22 minutes.
Entering Mbawana Beach is quite tricky as the road itself has plenty of twists and off-road routes as well. After arriving on the location, every tourist need climb down the steep stairs, and white sand’s surface, blue sea and ocean waves are awaiting you.
The especial angle literally lies on the cliff with the wall around it and notably a half-circle hole in the centre of the cliff. The hole does apparently beautify the beach itself; not to mention tourists might take pictures and also explore the beauty of this beach.
For those who do truly want to chase after the sunset, it simply offers a lovely scenery. And the wave from the ocean is big enough for surfing. Here, any activity shall be fulfilled: swimming, surfing, having leisure time till the dusk comes, and so on.

We can visit the Waikuri Lake near the Kalenarongo Village, North Kodi District, Southwestern Sumba Region. The lake itself has only the space as broad as a soccer field. Even so, the water is pretty clear, and we can obviously see the lake’s floor.
Not to mention the white sand is there too like what we are always seeing in the beach. It is because Waikuri Lake is located nearby the sea; only separated by reef cliffs. The water has salty flavor, as the seawater does enter the lake through all the cliffs. Later, it will be gathered by every basin in guard of fence.
The seawater comes through the cliffs in which they separate it with the water from the lake. By merging the seawater with freshwater, there will emerge a source of water. So don’t be surprised if you feel a difference from water temperature while throwing yourself into the Waikuri Lake. Warm and cold water will simply merge in several areas on the lake.
Importance of Waikuri Lake
Recently, Waikuri Lake has been the leading spot of tourism in Southwestern Sumba. Because rarely do we witness a lake with salty water and beautiful nature that surrounds it. Yet, the lake is not too deep; it suits those who do have swimming as their hobby. More, the atmosphere is very peaceful, far from the crowd. Not to mention the lake’s environment has elegant scenery.
The water’s transparency is surely attracting everybody else to plunge and swim there immediately. Then, try to hike to the reefs around this lake. We will be mesmerized. Standing from the hill of the reef, we can literally see the ocean that travels wide and a green meadow as well. Also, the Waikuri Lake is becoming even bluer (in color) than before.
Being 60 km away from Tambaloka, there will need at least two hours taking the trip to reach Waikuri. But visiting it fits those with highly adventurous soul.

Helen
There are lots of things we can do. We know it wouldn’t cost much
money to put all the children in the world in school and would have the benefit of
taking them out of the jobs that their parents could then fill.

Good day,
I’ll be in Bali this September. I just want to ask if it’s possible to see Komodo and Padar Island in a day?
I’ll be arriving Bali at around 6:30pm on 13th Sept. However there’s no flight to Labuan Bajo in the evening.
Since I also want to go back to Bali and see Nusa Penida from 15-16 Sept.
Looking forward to hearing your advice.
Cheers
