TAB Komodo is a charity activity in which it initiated by the head of Tanah Aksara, Dyah Nurhayati. The event held in Komodo Island Elementary School, West Manggarai, East Nusa Tenggara for two days (April 15-16th, 2017). Selected volunteers’ sharing and introduction began the event. Later, it continued with “Kelas Inspirasi” in charge of the instructor board. And for teachers, several personnel from Tanah Aksara would give a training called as “Melukis Aksara”.
There, the event inspired the founder of “GO Socio Traveler”, Redemta Bunga to initiate a garden reading in Komodo Island. Redemta then gathered her collagues from Young Bachelor League in Komodo Village. Not to mention she did the collaboration with them as the part of Books for NTT community. The effort later turned out into an initiation for Komodo Garden Reading Community in the Komodo Village. Komodo Garden Reading Community does apparently exist to fulfill the literacy need for children there. Here, many have offered financial support and books’ donation to provide the Garden Reading Community activity’s continuance.
The Tanah Aksara community is a unique community with the objective of bringing tradition and cultural change. This community has a high commitment in maintaining local culture and ancestral heritage in the form of local characters. This community was pioneered on December 12, 2015, consisting of 3 people, with the tagline “together with the tradition of educating the nation”. Not to mention Tanah Aksara does have the role to engage society in the education and preservation of Indonesian culture, focusing on the Indonesian archipelago, the spirit letter & the moving literacy:
1. First is the script of the archipelago, in which it has the role to introduce to the public, that the script is also part of the cultural heritage that must be preserved, part of local wisdom as the nation’s identity.
2. Second is Letters of enthusiasm. Here, the initial mission aim is to minimize dropout rates by finding people who want and care about education in Indonesia, then writing & will be distributed throughout the archipelago for those in need. Then it developed, the digging of the Indonesian archipelago in each region visited by the team.
3. The third is called as Tanah Aksara moves. Thus conducts seminars to the public to introduce, reminding them that characters are part of a tradition that must be maintained. However, through the training of cultural revitalization, the culture itself does not become extinct. Products can be copyrighted: writing characters, tshirt, puzzles, and others. (Company Profile of Literacy Land: 2016)
This community leads to the reintroduction of the archipelago script, providing insight into the importance of script and culture. Also, Tanah Aksara wants to move as a forum that preserves the Indonesian archipelago as a cultural heritage, part of the design, self-identity, and local wisdom.
